Lumiere needed a break from the Westlands. It could be so dark and depressing, living in the cave most of the time. But apparently the outside world wasn't very much brighter. Today was a rare day where it was not raining, but the sky was still dark and thick with clouds. If they opened with a downpour, she would not be surprised. She stepped up the steep hill from the gorge and onto the soft, cool grass. The sensation was alien to her hooves, but she enjoyed it. It was a nice change from the loose stones and hard packed earth. At one point, as she walked, she stopped and then dropped her lithe golden body to the ground and rolled. The feeling was great compared to her usual dust baths. Lumiere rolled around for quite a few moments, rubbing her cheeks into the blades and shimmying her spine around like a canine might. Finally satisfied, she rose to her hooves again and gave a quick shake, flicking her pale tail against her golden sides in contentment. Then she picked up her frame into a stretching trot, moving toward the river.

volac.
Emotionless blue eyes stared across the plains, ears standing perked. It was another day, more things to overcome, another day put in the past. Nostrils flared as he took in the scents around him, teeth grinded, he swished his tail at the few flies that hovered over his haunches. The brute remained standing near the river, its running waters echoed in his ears. For the past few days, Volac had done nothing but wandering around. However, he only sought one thing, and one thing only. What was that, you ask? His own land. A place he ruled, a place that was all his own. Unfortunately, it was an unspoken rule that you couldn't just strut in all on your lonesome to claim such a land, to Volac's disappointment. The only way you could claim a land, was if you had a female by your side. Of course, he did not like that at all. To have such... such a lesser being near him? It disgusted him. Although he was willing to make such a sacrifice if it meant he could withhold something he so dearly desired. So that was exactly what he had been doing, on a search for a female that was good enough, for the situation anyway. Considering in his eyes, no mare was even near good enough for him. They were all the same, only purpose was to bare his spawn, and nothing more. And he was even picky about that, as well.
Eyes caught movement several feet before him. Volac stood still, muscles ready for any sort of action. By the scent, it was a female. May the nightmare begin. He snorted as he thought to himself, ears laid relaxed. Waiting.

As she approached the river, she could hear it rushing and breathed deeply. The air smelled fresh and wet, so unlike the stagnant heavy smell of the caves. She exhaled with a smile and picked up her pace into a canter, but ground to a halt when she saw the other horse standing there. She adjusted her stance, lifting her head high upon her long neck and flicking her white tail against her golden flanks. She stared at the stallion for a few moments and then moved on, closer to the water, blue eyes never leaving him. It had been such a long time since she'd seen another horse outside of those related to her by blood. It was refreshing, but also somewhat frightening. Lumiere did not always know how to react to other horses. Especially those that did not know of her princess status. As she walked past him, she turned her head until she dropped her muzzle into the water. That was the only time she took her eyes from him. But the moment she lifted her head, she turned about to continue staring at him. She was not about to lower herself and be the first one to speak.
